Terms of use

Last updated 31 October 2026

The short version

  • Browsing Goodshout is free. A free account lets you love shouts, follow businesses and save job ads.
  • Play fair: one account each, no fake loves, no scraping.
  • Businesses pay a monthly subscription to post, after any free period, and can cancel any time.
  • Businesses are responsible for what they post, and for honouring it.

1. Who we are

These terms are the deal between you and Goodshout. Goodshout is run by [legal name] (NZBN [number]), New Zealand (“Goodshout”, “we”, “us”).

By using goodshout.nz you agree to these terms. If you run a business on Goodshout, section 5 applies to you too.

2. What Goodshout is

Goodshout shows live “shouts” (short posts) and job ads from local businesses in New Zealand towns and suburbs. Browsing is free for everyone. Businesses pay a monthly subscription to post.

We don't sell anything ourselves. If you take up a shout or apply for a job, that's between you and the business.

3. Your account

  • You need a free account to love shouts, follow businesses and save job ads. Browsing doesn't need one.
  • You sign in with a one-time code we email you. There are no passwords, so keep your email secure: anyone who can read it can sign in as you.
  • You must be 16 or older to create an account.
  • One account per person.
  • You stay signed in on a device for up to 90 days, unless you sign out.

4. Using Goodshout fairly

This applies to everyone. Please don't:

  • fake or game loves or follows, for example with several accounts or automated tools;
  • copy or scrape Goodshout content in bulk;
  • interfere with how Goodshout works, or try to get into anyone else's account;
  • use Goodshout to harass anyone, mislead people or break the law.

Anyone can report a shout or job ad they think breaks the rules, with its Report button. We may remove loves, hide content, or suspend accounts that break these terms.

5. Businesses

Joining

  • Each Goodshout business is one physical location. A business with several locations signs each one up separately.
  • Whoever signs a business up must be its owner or a manager, or have their OK. They become its Owner on Goodshout.
  • We check and approve every business by hand, and we can decline any business. If we decline yours, you're never charged and your saved card is removed.
  • We put your business in the Goodshout location nearest its address, within 40 km. Your address and category decide where you show, so to change them, email hello@goodshout.nz.
  • Keep your business's details accurate. If it moves more than 40 km from every Goodshout location, it leaves Goodshout: we'll cancel your subscription and can put you on the waitlist for your new town.

Your shouts and job ads

  • You can post once we've approved your business and shouts are open in your location.
  • You own what you post. You let us show it on Goodshout, in link previews when it's shared, and in our own promotion of Goodshout, while it's up and for a reasonable time after it ends.
  • Shouts go live straight away. Every shout, job ad and change to your business's name, description or logo goes through an automatic check that uses an AI model. If it flags a shout or job ad, it shows as “In review” while we take a look.
  • We can hide or remove any shout, photo or job ad that breaks these terms. It then shows as “Removed by Goodshout” on your dashboard.
  • You're responsible for what you post being accurate, and for honouring your offers. Follow NZ law, including the Fair Trading Act 1986.

Not allowed:

  • alcohol promotions NZ law doesn't allow, including free alcohol, or discounts of 25% or more on alcohol (a shout counts as advertising outside your premises);
  • vaping or tobacco promotions;
  • adult services;
  • get-rich-quick schemes, multi-level marketing or crypto;
  • political campaigning;
  • anything misleading, offensive or unlawful;
  • anything that isn't about your own business's goods, services, news or jobs.

Job ads

  • People apply to you directly. Goodshout doesn't handle applications.
  • You're responsible for your job ads and for following NZ employment law. That includes the Human Rights Act 1993 (no ads that discriminate, for example by age, sex, ethnicity, religion or disability) and not asking for unpaid trial shifts.
  • A job ad comes down on its closing date, after 30 days, or when you mark it filled, whichever comes first. You can have up to 10 up at once.

Your numbers

Your dashboard shows how your shouts and job ads are going, as numbers only. You never see who loved, followed or saved anything. Views and taps from you and your team don't count.

Subscription and billing

  • Price: the monthly price for your location is shown before you sign up (for example, $37 + GST a month). Prices are in NZ dollars. Stripe sends GST invoices.
  • Card up front: you add a card when you sign up, and nothing is charged then. Stripe handles payments; we never see your full card number.
  • Free period: if your location offers one (for example, a founding offer of 3 months free, or a trial), it starts when we approve your business or when your town or suburb goes live on Goodshout, whichever is later. We'll email you a week before it ends. Cancel before then and you won't pay a cent.
  • Monthly billing: after any free period, your subscription renews each month and your card is charged automatically until you cancel.
  • Failed payments: if a payment fails, Stripe tries again and emails you for about two weeks while you stay live. If it still fails, your profile and shout are paused (hidden, nothing deleted) until your card is updated.
  • Price changes: we may change the price for your location. We'll give you at least 30 days' notice before a new price applies to you.
  • Cancelling and coming back: cancel any time from your dashboard's Billing tab. Our Refunds & cancellations page explains what happens next, and how to come back.

6. Our service

  • We work hard to keep Goodshout running well, but we provide it as it is, and can't promise it'll always be available or error-free.
  • We may change, add or remove features. If a change significantly reduces what a paying business gets, we'll tell you first.
  • We can't promise any number of views, loves, followers or customers.

7. Liability

  • If you use Goodshout for the purposes of a business, the Consumer Guarantees Act 1993 doesn't apply, and you agree it's fair and reasonable that it doesn't.
  • As far as the law allows, we're not liable for indirect losses (like lost profits), and our total liability to a business in any 12 months is limited to the subscription fees it paid us in the 3 months before the claim.
  • Nothing in these terms takes away rights you have under NZ law that can't be excluded.

8. Ending things

  • You can close your account any time by emailing hello@goodshout.nz.
  • We may suspend or close an account that breaks these terms. If we end a business's subscription for a reason that isn't its fault, we'll refund the unused part of the current month.

9. Privacy

Our Privacy policy explains what we collect and how we use it.

10. Changes to these terms

We may update these terms. If a change matters, we'll tell you by email or on Goodshout before it takes effect. Carrying on using Goodshout after that means you accept the new terms.

11. The law

These terms are governed by New Zealand law, and New Zealand courts deal with any disputes.
